Ephesus, in Turkey, was a wonderful place to visit. It was a thriving port that is now miles from the sea because the Meander River has, over the centuries, deposited silt to create a lush, green valley. It was where Cleopatra arrived in triumph to, what was then, part of the Roman Empire. It was a cultural center with the Library of Ephesus. It was a medical community for healing, and an entertainment/cultural center with open air markets and a stadium.
