Utah 211

After leaving Mesa Verde, I had been told about Utah Rt 211 by two different people.  But both said "keep going, it's worth the drive".  It was!  So many pictures to choose from, this post was hard.  I was almost alone on the road and continued to pull over at the oddest places. I needed higher clearance on the car in some locations.
Traveling up Highway 191, this rock formation
is along the right side of the road.  If I hadn't
stopped to photograph this from different angles,
I would have missed the turn off to 211.

After miles of rolling hills on an isolated highway, in a grove of
trees along the road, I came upon Newspaper Rock.

Very near Newspaper Rock this is the view.  Little did I know after
stopping to take this picture, what would open up just beyond.

Mile after mile the butts continued to appear before me.  Every
turn was a stunning view.  Being a normal photographer, I took
a lot of pictures.  It was warm, and the Prius' AC was put to the
test as I stopped and jumped out to snap a picture.

This butt towered over the landscape as I drove along the road.  It was
some distance away from me so it really isn't  evident how impressive
this sight was.

Okay, so there's the Prius again.  I was surrounded by cliffs of color.  Oh, wow....click on the picture (one click will bring all the pixs in the post to full screen)
to see all the TX, NM, CO & UT bugs I've collected on the front of my car so far!

At the Visitor's Center (22 miles in) I was told that this route had put me at the bottom of the canyons of Canyonlands National Park.  What I would be seeing from the northern access to the park, would only be from the top.  I was very glad I made the turn on to 211.
