Route 128

After settling into a hotel in Moab, I wanted to take a sunset drive on a road I had been told "I must see".  It is Route 128 just north of Moab.  It's the back side of Arches National Park...and there is the road, the river and the cliffs.
Starting along the highway there are bike paths and camping.
As sunset drew closer, I saw people with their lawn chairs
sitting along the river, drink in hand waiting for the sunset.

To give perspective, these two rafts had
put in a few hundred yards from where
I took the picture.
To take this picture I just pulled off the road (so that two of my
tires were still on the road.  It truly is just river, road and rocks.

This was on the right side of the car, still two
wheels on the road, and taken thru the sunroof of
the car.

I think this was about 12 miles along the route, where the
canyon opened up a little, but still great vistas.

The sun was really getting low and the light was fading from the
canyon floor.  But the sky was clear and bright.  And it was SO
quiet.  Since there is some camping along the river, the slight
smell of campfires reminded me of camping in my youth.
