Minutes into Athens
After landing in Athens, your Smartours guide, Granville Lee-Warner, loaded us onto a bus for the trip from the airport to the first hotel. A boutique hotel quite near The Plaka named Athenian Callirhoe Hotel. It seemed small, but was quite big with stunning views and a great location. While on the bus we passed several statues that caught my attention. Thanks to my Facebook friends, I was able to get the name of this first, amazing statue. It is "The Runner" by Tilemahos Efthimiadis and was commissioned for the 2004 Olympics. We saw it during the middle of the day, but Granville (our guide that you will see I refer to continually) said that at night the lights from the cars reflect the glass, shimmering the statue to make it appear to be in motion. It appeared that way as we drove by. I wish I hadn't had to take the snap thru the bus window. Next Trip!!! I thank Eileen Senter for the artist's name.
